Some of the fault, of course, lies in the fact that the FreeBSD Ports maintainers have created ports for every single gem and tried to map out said dependency hell, so every time one gem updates or gets renamed, everything explodes..
But I can't rightly suggest that they *don't* do that. That's their job. If shit's not in the Ports tree properly, and instead relying on Ruby to manage its own shit, that's breaking the system design.
